PalsaCenter was opened for customers in June 2016, in Veitsiluoto Kemi, offering modern core logging facilities (2 rooms with core tables) and storage space. Low-risk sample storage combined with the possibility to study the samples is one of the most popular services. Customers have the option to come and log the samples themselves or get it as a service from Palsatech.
“Sample storage means that the customers have no need to rent their own facilities for storage, we take care of them. Some of our clients have used the service in the initial stage when the running costs have to be kept low before the project has advanced to a higher level. There are also clients that use just our storage to be able to concentrate in more important tasks without worrying about the facilities and storage space”, says CEO Mika Alasuutari.
At the moment there are more than 2700 pallets of core, pulp and ampoule samples stored in PalsaCenter.
Palsatech Oy has expanded the supply of services and been involved in many projects in construction industry. The service center based in Kemi offers modern facilities to execute geotechnical and geological reporting related to engineering geology.
Project Geologist Jari Mannila (M.Sc.) is responsible for the engineering geological know-how. He has 10 years of experience in mine development, mineral exploration and engineering geological projects.
He is familiar with engineering geological logging and using the Q-system. Most of the time serving the construction industry he has spent in Länsimetro site (employed by Palsatech Oy and previously by Suomen Malmi). Other tasks in the Helsinki region have been the engineering geological reporting for Pisararata, Kalasatama parking hall and Håga-tunnel in Espoo.
“I’ve also been working in other projects like the Central water plant in Tampere, Fennovoima nuclear, Borealis Polymers Oy in Kilpilahti and the the Saimaa drill holes for Posiva (1700m)”, says Jari Mannila.
The company offers a wide range of services which is also good for employees. “A versatile geologist can work both in mining and construction industries. It is easier to find projects for such geologists”, says company’s Chief Geologist Hannu Ahola.
